The art lover in me was super excited to discover, Who Stole Mona Lisa? by Ruthie Knapp, on the Library shelf. Based on actual events and narrated by the woman with the world’s most recognizable smile herself, this book brings to life the story of the famous Leonardo da Vinci portrait, the Mona Lisa. Through beautiful illustrations and brief text, this story presents facts about the painting’s “life” in the Louvre Museum, including her brief kidnapping, rescue and rightful reunion on the Louvre’s wall.

Did you know that the name of the woman who posed for the portrait was Lisa Gherardini and “Mona” means “my lady” in Italian? The English translation of the title is, MY LADY LISA. If you think that’s interesting, checkout this fun and informative art tale.
Leonardo da Vinci has always held a special place in my heart; He was, after all, an animal lover. Legend goes, he would often purchase caged animals at the market, only to set them free! That’s my kind of artist. For books about this artisit, scultpter, inventor, architect, and engineer, visit our children’s art and biography sections.
